Landmarks Commission is Apprehensive
Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:28PM Today, we went before the Landmarks Commission to submit our application for the carriage house. We were item number four on the list (which was a bit on the less-awesome side for the people who were after us) and it was a rather lengthy discussion on the carriage house. There were uncertainties brought up about the carriage house's size and relation to the historic home, as well as the one next to it. It all ended in a three against three split decision. There will be a technical committee held by the three persons who voted "no" in which we will provide different visual aids to help them vote in our favor. Below, is how the garage will look (kinda) and had we had this in the meeting it probably would have given them what they wanted to see in order to make a final decision. I was unable to properly depict the perspective of it, so it still looks like it sits forward on the lot, but in reality it will be recessed behind the fronts of both houses. I just made the doors yellow to match the house now so they weren't stark white, but they will be painted to match the house when we paint it.
The other part they were unsure about was the material. They did not like the striations in the particular finish that we found. So, we went online and found almost the same product but without the striations. I really hope it gets approved when we call for our technical committee.
Come on... You have to admit, that's pretty awesome that I was able to remove the yellow addition, continue the porch, and put a building in a blank lot. Well, I'm proud anyway. AND-- it has SHADOWS AND GLASS!
